Woodland creatures

This is odd. We walked one of our favorite paths in the dune-forest and encountered something new. Man made, no doubt, but odd nevertheless. I approached it carefully, one never knows what things like this will do:

When I was near, I smelled it was a tree. They pulled a tree out of the ground and put it back in the earth again, upside down! Silly humans.

I do not think the tree likes it, regardless of the pretty face it has now. I think it gets a little nauseous standing upside down. Next time we walk here – and M isn’t looking – I will push it over and dig it in, so it will be feeling okay again.

Wander weekend

I had a great weekend. We went camping, M and I!

We wandered in the woods and followed all kinds of small paths. When we did not know which way to go, we chose the path that smelled the most inviting.

We had Adventures along the way, too. We encountered a herd of enormous beasts! Some of them were pitch black and looked very impressive. We made a little detour, of course, what do you expect? It is the only sensible way to do when one encounters beasts. Especially when they come in a herd.

After this I had to be extra alert, in case we would encounter more of them…

Happily, we did not. From then on everything was peaceful and quiet in the woods.

In the night, M and I slept cosily together in the bed. At home I have my own beds, but in the campervan we share. We nestle close together under the blanket, so we both stay warm.

In the morning we had pancakes and coffee! Well, just pancakes for me, M still won’t give me coffee. I don’t know why, it would surely help with my morning temper. It does with M’s…

After breakfast we waited for the rain to stop.

Then we went wandering again. We went through rough grassy land…

And along broad avenues lined with ancient trees.

When we broke up and drove away I thought we were going home, but M had a surprise for me. We stopped at the home of my boy-friend! It was great to see him.

You can imagine I had a grand weekend. We wandered through the woods, explored grassy lands, escaped a herd of dangerous beasts, ate pancakes and slept in one warm bed and on top of all that I played and cuddled with my friend. I am one happy dog.

Tree creatures

Last weekend I walked in a pretty forest. There were nice little lakes where I looked for sticks to play with:

This forest is unfamiliar to me and that is nice, it means there are loads of things to discover. New scents and stuff like that. There was something else, something odd about the trees. There were faces, inside the trees!

M pointed them out to me. Of course I noticed them before she did, because I smelled the freshly carved wood and knew something had happened to the trees. Some humans had carved creatures in living trees. Strange.

There were humans walking around, looking at the woodcarvings and talking about them. They were so focussed on the works of art that they forgot to notice the other interesting things in the forest! Like the little frogs near the lake, a rabbit in the distance, mice hiding in the fallen leafs and a big bird of prey, hovering above us.

Silly humans. They seem to be capable of focussing only on one thing at a time, usually not the most important one, and forget everything around it. It is a miracle they are still here, and so many of them too.

Mysterious woods

Our holiday is definitely turning out to be an active one. We are still in the Slovenian mountains and yesterday we made a wonderful walk in the woods. Not just some wood, but a rather mysterious one. Very different from the woods in Holland. This wood has little streams and big boulders and waterfalls. It is very lush and it smells great, it is a green smell with a touch of clear mountain water.

Lush green woods

I ran up and down the little paths and smelled the air. The game I sensed was far away, not worth chasing. So I just enjoyed the view and the wonderful smell.

Action

I thought we were having a lazy holiday, lying in the sun and all that, but it turns out to be an active one, too! We moved from Croatia to Slovenia. It is cooler here and there are mountains! And a huge lake. M tells me it is called the lake of Bohinj. She says I was here earlier, two years ago on our first holiday together. It is a very pretty spot.

Lake Bohinj

It is a place to have really cool Adventures. We made a nice walk in the dense woods surrounding the lake. It was quite adventurous, as you can see. M and P had to climb over obstacles like this – no problem for me of course, I just jump over them. And I wait politely for M and P to follow me.

We also explored the lake and its small beaches by canoe! I love to travel in a canoe, I did it before, you know. I am totally relaxed on the water. I just jump in and scan the surroundings for ducks and dangers, while M and P are splashing our way over the deep waters. It was splendid.
