The strangest thing

M did the strangest thing…. we were out in our garden, as we often are. Then M is tending the plants and I am sniffing for cats. But this time M took her gardening tools and began to dig. Not just dig up one plant, like she sometimes does, but ALL the plants!

She did not stop until all the plants were out of our garden and in big boxes.

I find this amazing. I mean: I like digging, but I am not allowed to dig in our garden. Of course this does not mean I never dig – I have some secret projects in the garden M doesn’t know of. But anyway, I thought digging was prohibited. Until now, apparently!

M drove away with all the plants and returned with…. other plants! She put them in our garden, which is now looking like this:

She told me I am not allowed to dig in this bed, nor in any other part of the garden. That is not fair! Why would she go on digging when ever she feels like it, and forbid me to do the same? I do not understand it, either. The plants she put in our garden smell different, they smell like our new garden. I can sense foxes and rabbits and cats – the cats of our neighbors there. Why did M move the plants? It greatly puzzles me.

Big Guardening

Sorry you have not heard from me for a while. I have been very busy exploring our new garden! M and P finally took me with them in their many visits to our new home. The new home is practically a building site now, we do not live there yet. It will take some months before we move, M told me. That means I have two houses and gardens to guard! A big responsibility.

I am very exited about our new place. The garden is huge! I have a very nice garden now, no complaints, but the new garden is much grander. It is an estate, for me to guard!

This is it, the front yard:

There is a back yard too:

I already discovered some very exciting things in our new garden. I found shit smelling of fox! Great, there are foxes for me to hunt there! I love that, foxes are my absolute number one chasing targets. I do hope I will get the change to chase one, soon.

Anyway, you will understand that guardening all this will take a lot of time and effort. Maybe I won’t be able to blog in the time to come. But when I have exiting news to bring you, I certainly will. For instance when I caught a fox! That would be nice.

Evening walk

We just returned from a nice evening walk, M and I. We both were busy all day: she was working and I was dozing in my favorite chair. That was fine with me – it was pouring with rain most of the day. Then in the early evening the sun came out and M decided it was time to go.

It was very pretty in the dunes:

M tells me she enjoys the smells of all the wild flowers. I enjoy the smells of the wild rabbits! There are loads of them in the dunes. We walked on to the beach. Luckily there were no kites, I hate those big noisy ugly things. There were a lot of seagulls that are good for chasing, though, so that was nice. M made some pretty pics for this post, although not one of them has me in it. Which is a bit disappointing, I have to admit. Next time I’ll stick my nose in the camera.

Camping

We went camping this weekend! On the campsite where we were before, the one with all the rabbits. This time there were even more rabbits, but they stayed well away from our campervan. I had mixed feelings about this: I would have liked to catch one of them to present it to M for sharing (I hear that rabbits taste delicious when humans have removed all the furry stuff). But I also like them to be Respectful and stay clear of the campervan.

Anyway, we had a nice spot:

‘We’ in this case was me and M and a friend of M, who’s name is also M. That is a bit confusing, for humans. Not to me of course, because like all dogs I do not care much about names. It is the amount of cookies they give me that counts. And that was all right with this friend: she gave me lots. So I decided to allow her in my campervan.

We made long walks in the pretty woods surrounding the campsite:

It was good to go camping again. I wish we will do it more!

Tough weekend

I had a really tough weekend. There is a new and big responsibility pressing on my slender shoulders, as we say in Holland. M and P bought a new camper and this one is even nicer than the old one. It is my job to guard it, of course. I chase away every human, canine and squirrel that dares to come near our new van. This is it:

We just returned from a three day trip, our first in this new van. It was quite exciting. We made long walks through the woods and over dunes-without-sea (they puzzle me – where did all the water go?).

We even did a walk which apparently is especially for dogs. M pointed out to me that the signs are made for us:

I think this is very funny. We dogs do not need signs, we find our way through the woods easily! Ha, silly humans.

In the nights it became very cold, so I made sure I was warm enough. My coat is pretty and sleek, made for the heat of Greece (where I come from), not the coldness of the north. So I took the right measures to stay warm during the night.

I did not mind sharing my bed with M and P, I am a social dog.

It was a nice trip, but I am very tired now because I hardly slept. I had to guard the van, right? Although the campsite seemed deserted, this was not so. There were squirrels laughing in the trees, rabbits running about and even some chicken prying at our nice new camper. I gave them my special look, so they did not dare to come close.

Long walk

We just returned from a long walk, M and I and W. W is M’s mother. She likes walking as much as M and I, so sometimes we go together! That’s nice. I like her, she gives me cookies.

We walked on the beach and through the dunes. It was sunny and quiet, we almost had a private beach!

The beach is great for running and chasing birds. Which I did, of course. After some hours we went into the dunes, rabbit country!

Long walk 1

But the rabbits were skinny, so I did not catch them. Besides I wanted to save my energy. When we go for a walk and M has her hiking gear with her (a big lumpy thing on her back with loads of stuff in it, like my food and my bed) one never knows when one will return home. I was right in saving my energy: this particular walk turned out to be a two day walk.

On the second day we spotted some very interesting wildlife:Long walk 5

I did want to chase that one, but M stopped me. Not fair! When we walked on I used my sharp eyes and nose even more than usual to spot these big juicy animals. But alas, they were all hiding from me. They must be very clever.

Long walk 2

For the last stage of our long walk we walked on the beach again.

Long walk 3

It was a nice walk. Now I will sleep for half a day and then we can go again!

Sunny walk

Yesterday M was ill and I stayed by her side all day. I do not want to go out when she is ill, I want to stay with her in case she needs me. She is much better today, so I took my usual position near the window to guard my street, again. But that is not what I want to tell you about today – I want to show you the walk we did a couple of days ago. It was awesome! We went to a place that is not familiar to me. The sun was shining:

Sunny walk 1

There were nice smelly woods, dunes and sand and loads of rabbits and little lakes shimmering in the distance:

Sunny walk 2

And then, there was the beach! The sea is never far off where we live. I had smelled it already when we were walking in the woods and was hoping we would go there. I like the woods, but I love the beach.

Sunny walk 3

We went down to it and I did some thorough running, chasing seagulls and all that. Then we returned to the woods again. It was a really nice walk.
