Summer holiday

I am very excited, because M and P are packing. Books, food and hiking gear: everything is stowed in our new campervan. We will probably leave very soon! Of course I will keep you posted about our Adventures. It will be great, I am sure of that. This will be my fourth big long summer holiday – what, do you think I can not count because I am a canine? Don’t be silly, every dog can count. Why else do you think we are annoyed when you only give us one (1) cookie?

Anyway, these big long summer holidays are always great. Last year we enjoyed the hot weather in Croatia, which was very relaxing:

We had some great Adventures too, like canoeing on an awesome lake:

The year before that we had a great time in the mountains:

And the year before that I was still a puppy, having my very first Adventures with M and P. We went biking!

I am big enough now to run next to the bike, so I will do that. I don’t fit into this basket anymore, anyway. It was already a bit cramped when I was little, as you can see.

Who knows where I will go next? I’ll let you know!

Anniversary

Today it is exactly two years ago that M and P adopted me. M told me so this morning. Wow, two years already! When they came for me, I was five months old. They took me home in their car. I was pretty impressed by everything, as you can see:

In my new home Zuid was waiting for me, she is the dog of friends of M and P. She stayed with us for a couple of days, to make me feel at home. I had never been without other dogs in my life, growing up in a shelter, so it was sweet of M and P to think of this. Zuid became my godmother:

I grew up quick and I turned into a strong dog, ready to measure forces with anyone.

I became the fastest dog on the beach:

And made some groovy friends:

I had some great Adventures in the last two years. I traveled in a boat, with M and P:

We hiked in Spain and in Austria.

I made sure our campervan was safe.

I even traveled on a bike in Germany:

M and I did a lot of training, which to be honest can be very tiring:

And we became quite good in doing doga together:

When I came to Holland, I had Ambitions. I am glad to say that in the last two years I started realizing these Ambitions, and have some thrilling Adventures besides. Life is good. I will never stop exploring.

Mountain animals

I do like walking in the mountains. There are lots of interesting smells and the terrain is good for running and climbing. I have to wait for M and P a lot, since they are not as fast as I am, but that is okay.

There are a lot of animals here I am unfamiliar with. There are big birds of prey. And little furry ones that look a bit like cats. They live in groups. One of them sits on guard and warns the others with a high note when we are approaching. The holes they live in smell promising, but unfortunately I am too big to creep into them. Other animals here I do know, but in Holland they live behind fences. Here they roam in the wild. I am not sure if I can trust them. They seem pretty peaceful, but some of them have a strange look in their eyes. Yesterday, I spotted one of them, watching us:

This is what it looked like. What do you think, she looks kind of strange, doesn’t she? What is she up to?

Trouble

M is angry with me. We were walking and I left the path to chase – what turned out to be – a falling pinecone. M got really mad, she told me I was stupid and words like that, because I left the path when I should had stayed with her. I had to walk on a leash, the rest of the way. That was boring. We were walking high up in the mountains, on top of these rocks:

Cliffs

M told me I could have fallen of the rocks, that is why she was so mad. Me, falling of the rocks, ha! Of course that would never happen to me. I would stop in time or, even better: just jump to the ground. Although they look very high, from this side… Uhm, maybe M is right and I would have fallen. If I’m frank, I don’t think I could jump from such a height… Oh dear, that is a depressing thought. Is this part of growing up, getting to know one’s limitations? I hope not, I don’t like it.

Mountain dogs

I am still in the Pyrenees and there is something special here I’d like to tell you about. There are mountain dogs here, called the Pyrenean Mountain Dog. They guard the sheep, protecting them from wolves and bears. These dogs are awesome. Huge and ferocious. Humans who walk in these mountains are warned not to touch them or go near them. They even make cartoons to explain this!

Pyrenese mountain dogs

Of course, we dogs don’t need such a warning. M and me saw one of these dogs with it’s herd of sheep, in the distance. I smelled him and instantly knew I had to keep out of his way. I mean: respect, man. I’ll leave you with your sheep, while I return to my soft bed and city life.

A day in the mountains

We are in the Spanish Pyrenees and it is really nice here. I’ll show you what we do here on an average day. First we walk for some hours. It is hot and dusty, but there are sources where I can drink. Like this:

Then we have a picnic at a lovely spot. I like it most when we rest near a little river, so I can play in the water. There are some good sticks for grabs here:

At the end of the day we get back at the campervan. M and P relax and so do I. It is a bit tiring, you know, walking for hours and having to guard M and P all the time. Usually I sleep in the sun. As a Greek dog, I like the warmth. If it gets too hot, I lie down in the shade.
