Happy new year

As a dog I am rather surprised about all this happy new year stuff. Humans make a lot of fuss about it, as if today will be very different from tomorrow because it will be a ‘new year’. Typical. The sun goes down and comes up again, which in itself is pretty magical every time she does that. Drawing a line between two days with an ‘old’ and a ‘new’ year is kind of…. technical.

Anyway: humans share a lot of ‘looking back on 2016’ news and that I do like. It got me thinking. It was a good year, you know. So I thought I’ll share my biggest adventures of 2016 with you.

This is The List of 2016:

February: camping for the first time with our new campervan. I guard it even more ferociously than I did before, with our old campervan. We went camping a lot this year, which was awesome.

Police adventure 2

March: helping the police to catch some burglars – that is a police officer you see in the picture, the burglars escaped. But we did find their tools!

May: exploring the woods around our home and discovering a new path that is known only to us.

Walk in Barolo

July: hiking in the hot hills of Italy.

Pijama nights 3

August: chilling in the high mountains of France.

September: cruising along the beach boulevard with my boy-friend.

November: exploring the vast woods around our favorite campsite.

I also want to mention the numerous times I was on the beach. We go there almost every day, so I can not call all these beach strolls a big adventure. But I do love them. There might not be a big adventure waiting there (although sometimes there is, like the times I assisted the police), but one never knows what little surprises we will encounter. They count too, you know.

Little fish!

Happy new year!

Food

I promised you another episode in the Bubbles Guide on Happy Healthy Living and this is it. It is about food. It can be a bit tricky for me to advise you on what to eat, because I am a dog and most of my readers on this topic are probably human (dogs don’t read about food, we eat it). We dogs have a slightly different taste than humans. For instance: we both love pizza, but most humans will not like my favorite topping. That is why M helped me out a bit with this post.

Food is very important if you want to be happy and healthy. Most humans probably know what healthy food is, since there are loads of blogs on this topic. Therefore I will not go into detail, but summarize what you should and should not do when it comes to food. The method is simple and based on what our bodies are made for, as I explained in my first post in the Bubbles Guide on Happy Healthy Living. Meaning: eat like your predecessors.

This is it:

1. Only eat natural things. This includes all kinds of animals, like pigeon, duck, fish, little crabs, lamb, cat, lobster, cow, pig… the list is endless and mouthwatering. If possible: hunt them yourself, with your canine – it will give you great exercise, too! Also eat loads of vegetables, eggs and fruit like berries (I love berries!). Eat dairy, preferably Greek yoghurt (did I mention I am from Greece? They make great yoghurt).

Greek yoghurt

2. Do not eat food that comes from factories. That includes meat from chickenfactories and the pigindustry. Why? Because these animals had a horrible life with lots of stress. When you eat their meat, you will eat their unhappiness and stress. It will not make you happy and healthy.

3. Do not eat things unnatural. For us dogs this is not hard – I once ate a cigarette butt and believe me: you never do this a second time. However, there are lots of unnatural things sold as food for human consumption. And as a matter of fact for dogs, too. Ever heard of Pina Colada syrup as a topping for dog food? It exists! Crazy. For humans it can be difficult to recognize what is natural and what is not. M has an easy rule to end this confusion: never eat things that have more than four ingredients on the package or ingredients that are mentioned in numbers. This will keep you on the safe side, most of the times.

4. This point is probably known by all humans, because it is in almost every healthy-food-blog. But M tells me it is important to mention in our list of happy healthy food. So here it is: do not eat things with added sugar. Nor the chemical alternatives to sugar (see point 2: it comes from factories). Skip this altogether from your diet. And yes, that includes cake and pies. And all drinks with sugar, like soda.  Do I have to explain everything?

5. There is a lot of discussion on whether or not to eat bread. I do not know the truth about bread being healthy or unhealthy. I’d say: when in doubt, eat pizza!

6. Enjoy your food. Sit down for it, chew on it. Lie down after a good meal and take a short nap, enjoying all the flavours in your mouth and the sounds your tummy is making. I have to admit I can improve on this point, because I usually eat my food too quick. I always intent to eat it more slowly and really savour the food, but when it is in front of my nose I forget my intention and gobble it. Unless it is food that needs some careful handling, like little crabs.

Little crabs are the best!

7. Last one: eat whenever you feel like it. Do not believe this stuff of three meals a day, it is rubbish. Just eat when you feel hungry. If you live a happy healthy live, with loads of the exercise I explained in my previous posts, your body will tell you exactly when you need food. Trust your body. Enjoy your happy healthy food!

Great weather!

The weather is great today: nice and sunny and warm. I am glad it is getting warmer, I like to feel the warmth of the sun on my fur. It makes me very relaxed.

Sun and sea

Today we walked to a new place – a place near the beach where we go a lot, but here I had never been before. It is a big stretch of concrete, a long way into the sea. Kind of a street in the water. There were lots of humans fishing and it smelled yummy. They did not give me any fish though, although I really gave my best look to convince them. Strange. When I was little I looked very cute, could this be changing now I am growing up? I hope not. I will make some extra effort in looking cute.
