A disaster

Something very bad happened to me. I did not see it coming and now I am confused and sad. What happened? M is gone. She packed her bag, she even packed hiking gear so I was expecting to go with her. But then she kissed P, patted me, took her stuff and left!

She left yesterday and I haven’t seen her since. I just can’t believe it. I am depressed.

Oh no

Big dog, long legs

When M and P adopted me, they were told I was going to be a medium sized dog of approximately 10 kilos. That turned out to be not quite true. I kept on growing, in height as well as in length. When I stopped growing in height, some parts of me still grew, like my nose. So finally I became a big dog with long legs, long tail and long nose.

I like that. As I told you before, size matters. Especially when you like bumping into other dogs and chasing them on the beach. But sometimes being a big dog is a bit inconvenient. For instance when your humans think a simple pillow is a good place for you to rest.

The pillow is in one of my favorite spots, near the window at the front of the house and near the warm wall. As you can see I am very flexible, so I bend my long legs to fit on this pillow. But it is not very comfortable, so after a while I move to another spot. Gladly, I have several beds in my house. This is one of them, another favorite spot. As you can see, I do fit on this one.

When I was a puppy, this was big enough to share with one of my friends. I don’t do that anymore, of course, I am grown up now. I am not very much for sharing my bed, or my house, or car or…. well, anything, really. M told me that it is a good thing to share your stuff. That may be so for humans, it is certainly not right for dogs.

I’m back!

Hello there, I am back! M and P returned from their holiday and Nicoline brought me home. There were some interesting new smells in the house, coming from the luggage of M and P. I smelled lobster and sunshine. I really, really want to go with them next time, because lobster and sunshine are two of my favorite things! I can’t believe they enjoyed it without me.

But I won’t be cross for too long, because I had a good time with Nicoline. We were a huge pack, I was together with twelve other dogs! Some of them became my friends. I played a lot with Boss, a big mean German Shepherd Dog. He is still growing and getting stronger every day. I really like to challenge him. This is a picture of him, together with the older German Shepherd in our pack:

Boss

Boss is the one on the right. In this picture they were singing, I don’t have a clue why, it was absolutely horrible to hear. I bumped into Boss to stop him and he resumed playing with me.

Another dog I really like is Flynn. This is him:

He can give you a very odd look, as you can see. I discovered the right response to this look:

I had a good time, but I am glad to be back home. At least I have my own bed now (at Nicolines place we swop beds all the time), with my very own snoozebag. And I can blog again! Like I predicted, Nicoline did not allow me on the computer. She thinks dogs shouldn’t blog, tssss.

Odd times

This is a silly time. The days are dark, the smell of food is in the air more than in any time of the year and humans stuff their houses with sticks adorned with odd looking, light emitting things. Normally we dogs are not allowed to take sticks into the house, but now humans do this themselves! Very odd.

Yesterday I met a dog who told me he had had a good time  with these special sticks, when he was home alone. He had a lot of fun with the trinkets and the tasty tree, before his humans got home and got very mad. We discussed that this is strange: how can you put something to play with in your house and not want your dog to play with it? That is just not fair. Besides, he told me the house looked much more cosy and festive with the trinkets (and the tree dissembled into manageable sticks) scattered through the living room. So his humans should be thankful, instead of angry!

We do not have these sticks in the house, but our neighbors do. Yesterday I heard their cat singing (well, yammering actually) through the walls: ‘oh christmas tree, oh christmas tree, your ornaments are history’. Then I heard a crash. I didn’t know cats play with sticks, too!

It is all right with me when humans behave odd. But they should leave us dogs out of it. The trouble is: they don’t. They appear to think we need some special attention too and with attention they do not mean things dogs like (like taking a long walk or gnawing a juicy bone), but things humans like. One thing is… they dress us, in stupid clothes! Throughout the year only chihuahuas have to stand being dressed up like little humans, but during winter times other dogs are victims, too.

I will tell you why it is NOT a good idea to dress your dog. We are not human, we have fur. That keeps us warm enough. We do not like clothing, it gives us a stuffy feeling and it itches. But, most important: dressing up your dog is killing for her image. If she will go out in that reindeer sweater you bought for her, the dogs in the neighborhood will never take her serious again. I know what I am talking about. When I was a puppy and living with my foster parents (before M and P adopted me), I was dressed up, too. It was minus ten degrees Celsius and I did not have enough hair to keep me warm in those days, coming out of Greece and all that. This is what it looked like:

Cardigan bubbles

Yes, it looked utterly ridiculous. I could do nothing about it at the time: I did show my teeth, but being so small they thought it looked ‘cute’ and dressed me up all the same. I am only sharing this with you to show how stupid clothes look on a dog. I did not care much about image building in those days, just arriving from Greece and looking for a home I had other worries. But now I live in a new place, with a proper home, I would never wear something like this. It would be killing for my image with the cool dogs in the neighborhood.

So if this Christmas (that is what these silly days are called) your human gives you clothes for a present, make him/her very clear you do not appreciate it. Tear them apart immediately. Pee on them. Give them to the cat. I for myself am sure M would never give me clothes. I am hoping to get hair extensions, for my ears!

Snoozebag

I got a really nice present today. Winter is coming and it is getting colder, so M thought I might be cold in the nights. We all sleep in the same room and M and P like to keep this room cool. I don’t mind, but I do have to admit I am not very well suited for cold weather. You see, my coat is made for the country where I was born: Greece. My hairs are very short and on my tummy there is not enough of it to keep me warm. When we are out I run to keep myself warm, but when I am sleeping I cannot do that, of course.

So I like this present! It is a snoozebag and it was made especially for me. It is big enough for me to lie in. I am glad that M respected my taste in this and chose an elegant black-and-white motif, with a classy neutral grey on the outside. Like I told you before: one has to be stylish, always!

Snoozebag

Now I can sleep nice and warm. M told me she bought this from a lady who makes these snoozebags and donates the money to the foundation where I came from. That is a nice thought. I will sleep warm and my fellow former stray dogs in the shelter in Athens have something to eat and sleep on, too.

If you want a snoozebag too, just tell your human to go to this Facebooksite. If your human is not very receptive to your hints (some of them can have really big bananas in their ears!), just go to the Facebooksite yourself when your human is not around and keep the computer turned on, so he will see it when he comes home. That should do the trick. Good luck!

Home alone

This afternoon I am home alone. M and P are out, something to do with what they call working. I don’t know what they are doing, but I am fine with it, because they always return.

When I am home alone I usually lie in the chair on the second floor, from where I can oversee my street. It is a good spot for guarding. But today I don’t feel like guarding. This is one of these days when I am sooooooo sleepy. Do you ever have this? I just lie down and snooze all afternoon. I hope I’ll have some nice dreams.

So sleepy
