Wander weekend

I had a great weekend. We went camping, M and I!

We wandered in the woods and followed all kinds of small paths. When we did not know which way to go, we chose the path that smelled the most inviting.

We had Adventures along the way, too. We encountered a herd of enormous beasts! Some of them were pitch black and looked very impressive. We made a little detour, of course, what do you expect? It is the only sensible way to do when one encounters beasts. Especially when they come in a herd.

After this I had to be extra alert, in case we would encounter more of them…

Happily, we did not. From then on everything was peaceful and quiet in the woods.

In the night, M and I slept cosily together in the bed. At home I have my own beds, but in the campervan we share. We nestle close together under the blanket, so we both stay warm.

In the morning we had pancakes and coffee! Well, just pancakes for me, M still won’t give me coffee. I don’t know why, it would surely help with my morning temper. It does with M’s…

After breakfast we waited for the rain to stop.

Then we went wandering again. We went through rough grassy land…

And along broad avenues lined with ancient trees.

When we broke up and drove away I thought we were going home, but M had a surprise for me. We stopped at the home of my boy-friend! It was great to see him.

You can imagine I had a grand weekend. We wandered through the woods, explored grassy lands, escaped a herd of dangerous beasts, ate pancakes and slept in one warm bed and on top of all that I played and cuddled with my friend. I am one happy dog.

Birthday surprise

It was my birthday this week, but I did not get the things on my wish list. So no new cargobike for me – although I explicitly asked for a new one. And also no mountain cat, what I asked for last year. I had a vague hope my humans would give me a cargobike filled with mountain cats but alas, that did not happen. Apparently even they can not arrange everything. By the way, this is a mountain cat. They look very juicy:

I could feel sad now, since I did not get anything from my wish list. But I am not, because I am a positive dog and because they gave me something awesome instead: a surprise trip! First we went to this beautiful estate, where we made a nice walk on the huge grounds:

There was a country fair, with lots of special plants and things for M’s garden. There was even fruit with names on it. Very special fruit:

After our visit to the fair we went camping!

We made long walks from the campsite. It was all very nice. What a great way to celebrate my birthday!

Picnic in the moorlands

It is still summer in Holland and M wants to savor as much good times as possible. We were home for some time after our long summer holiday and then M packed the campervan again and we went away! To a beautiful place in Holland, with moorlands and woods and big trees in little lakes.

This time P did not come with us and M’s mother joined us. Which is great, because she is sweet and she loves little white rolls and shares them with me! Awesome. You can imagine I had a great time. We walked and had picnics in the field and walked. Luckily not as far as our last long walk, which was a bit too much. Just nice long walks, with plenty of time to rest and enjoy the landscape.

Pyjama nights

We are in the mountains again! Not just some mountains: we are in the highest part of the Alps, M tells me. We are camping at the roots of the Mont Blanc. That is an enormous mountain, topped with loads of ice and snow. The landscape is rough and so are the walks. I love running in rocky terrain, so I like it here. I do have to wait for M and P all the time, because they are slow. But I don’t mind, I am good at waiting.

There is a downside to camping at the roots of mountains like this: the nights are very cold. I usually do not approve of clothing for dogs; I think humans are wrong to think we need clothes, since we are very well equipped to keep ourselves warm. We have fur, right? But in this case I am glad M brought me a pyjama, to keep me warm in the nights. My body is not made for icy mountain weather, so I kind of need this to get through the nights. It keeps me nice and warm, a bit like my snoozebag at home. Here we are, having breakfast in the freezing morning:

However, as soon as the sun comes out it gets warm. So I get rid of my pyjama and lie basking in the warm sunlight. Nice.

Wine and walks

We moved to another region in Italy, a pretty spot with hills and old towns perched on hilltops. They make a good wine here and that is why M and P wanted to come to this place. My humans like to mix good food and drink with nice walks. We are doing some fine hiking in this landscape.

Walk in Barolo

I like the walks. I do not care much about wine, but I do like bread. They happen to make fine bread here, too! It tastes like crunchy little white rolls. Lucky me!

I am glad that M and P share these Italian bread sticks with me. Nice.

Ciao bella!

We stayed for a long time in the German mountains and made some splendid walks. Now we are in a different country. There are mountains here too and beautiful lakes and very pretty gardens. Unfortunately most of these gardens have high fences around them, so it is impossible for me to research them and sample the grass. I do smell them, which is second best, I guess.

We made a nice long walk to a mountain hut, from where we could see very far. M and P like that. Me, I enjoyed the smells coming from the mountain hut’s kitchen. I smelled cheese and ham!

Ciao bella 2

M tells me we are in Italy and people here speak Italian. A lot of humans we meet here like dogs, especially beautiful dogs like me. You know what they say to me? ‘Ciao bella!’. Which means ‘hello pretty lady’. That is very nice of them. Of course I know I am pretty, but I never get tired of hearing it. I think I like Italians.
